Beauty makes a change

"The business of art is to reveal the relation between man and his environment." We are The Artistix, a group of six girls of grade 10 from Shiv Nadar School, Noida.

When one thinks about spit stains on the wall he/she feels disgusted, nauseated, obnoxious and what not which is so sickening. Isn't it? Thousands of people especially in India spit according to their convenience in places like railway stations, streets, market areas etc. which is not only unhygienic and toxic but it also diminishes the beauty and grace of our nation.

The possible reasons for this behavior of the people are-

1. Lack of awareness about cleanliness.

2. The 'not caring/chalta hai' attitude of people.

3. The lack of sense of responsibility

4. Absence of incentive

5. The existent bad conditions of the environment.

Since we didn't know how to change the mindset of people, all six of us decided to carry out an observation based project to find out a plausible and achievable solution.

The absence of encouragement and the will in people to take care of their surroundings is due to lack of beautification of the surroundings themselves. We are going to use Beauty to make a change. We have come up with a possible reason for people to handle their surroundings with care, and that is beautification.

Our project is to paint or decorate walls and observe to see any noticeable changes in amount of stains and marks people put on them.

We thought of this idea with the thinking that when a person sees a place which is dirty or grubby he/she tends to dirty it more but if the same place is clean and tidy that person will not want to destroy it by spitting or expectorating .
